Wedding Photographer in Phi Phi Islands

Phi Phi marries small — a ceremony on a beach the day boats don't reach, then the couple at the prow of a longtail under the cliffs of Phi Phi Leh; Phi Phi Leh is national park, where a professional shoot needs a permit, and ceremonies are arranged by the venues, so check before you go.

About Phi Phi Islands

The Phi Phi Islands are two main islands and a scatter of rocks in the Andaman Sea, reached by ferry from Phuket or Krabi. Phi Phi Don, the larger, is where people stay: there are no cars, only footpaths, bicycles and boats, and the island pinches to a narrow sandy waist between two bays. The climb to the viewpoint above the village looks straight down on that shape — Ton Sai Bay on one side, Loh Dalum on the other, limestone walls behind — and it is at its best in the early morning, before the day-trip boats arrive. Phi Phi Leh, the smaller island, is uninhabited and almost all cliff; its Maya Bay became famous through the film The Beach and is now protected: visitors can walk on the sand but not swim, and the bay closes for two months every year, usually August and September, to let the reef recover. Pileh Lagoon nearby, enclosed by cliffs, is the place for a swim. For a session, a longtail boat at first light gives the bays without the crowds. The best season is from about November to April, when the sea is calm; the southwest monsoon from May to October can make the crossings rough.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a wedding photoshoot in Thailand?

Most sessions run between forty-five minutes and two hours. In Thailand the time of day matters more than the length: the sun rises and sets between roughly six and seven o'clock all year, the soft light lasts only a short while because the sun climbs fast, and by mid-morning heat and hard overhead light take over. An hour that starts at sunrise or ends at sunset usually gives more than two hours at noon. The photographer's packages on their profile say exactly what each length includes.

Which month is best for a beach wedding in Thailand?

It depends on the coast. Phuket, Krabi, Khao Lak and Koh Lanta are driest from about November to April; their rainy season runs roughly mid-May to mid-October and peaks in September. Koh Samui and its neighbours have the opposite pattern, with the heaviest rain from October to December. Plan the ceremony for the last hour before sunset — the sun sets between about six and seven all year — and give the photographer time for portraits in that light before the reception. If the ceremony is at or near a temple, ask the temple first: rules for weddings and shoots differ from one temple to the next.

How much does a photoshoot on the Phi Phi Islands cost?

Each photographer sets their own price for a photoshoot on the Phi Phi Islands: every package on their profile shows an all-inclusive price, and nothing is added at checkout. Packages differ by how long the session runs and how many edited photos you receive, so compare a one-hour beach session against a longer one before you book.

When is the best time for a photoshoot on the Phi Phi Islands?

November to April. Phi Phi Don has no cars, so sessions move on foot and by longtail, and the viewpoint above the village is at its best around sunrise and sunset. Maya Bay, on Phi Phi Leh, is inside a national park and run under strict rules: boats no longer enter the bay but moor on the other side of the island, visitors walk in along a boardwalk, swimming is not allowed, time on the beach is limited, and the bay has closed every year from 1 August to 30 September — check the current dates. Arrive at opening for a beach with fewer people on it. From May to October, monsoon swells can cancel boats at short notice.
