Engagement Photographer in Koh Samui

An engagement shoot on Koh Samui is a boat day into Ang Thong National Marine Park — 42 islands of limestone and jungle, and the climb on Koh Mae Ko to look down on its enclosed emerald lake — then the island's beaches for the evening; the park needs a permit for professional shoots, and boats don't sail in rough weather.

About Koh Samui

Koh Samui is the largest of the Gulf islands and the easiest to reach, with its own airport, and its weather runs to a different calendar from the Andaman coast. Chaweng and Lamai on the east coast are the long, busy beaches; for a session the quieter corners usually work better — the coconut groves behind the sand, the granite boulders of the headlands, and the calmer bays of the north coast looking across to Koh Phangan. Bophut's Fisherman's Village keeps a row of old wooden shophouses along the beach and is at its best in the late afternoon. The Big Buddha, a golden figure twelve metres tall on a small island off the north-east coast, has looked over the sea since 1972, and the Hin Ta and Hin Yai rocks near Lamai are a local curiosity with a legend attached. Ang Thong National Marine Park, forty-two islands of limestone and green water to the west, is a full-day boat trip with a steep climb to its viewpoint. The best weather is from about January to August; from October to December the northeast monsoon brings the heaviest rain, and November is usually the wettest month of the year.

Frequently asked questions

How long is an engagement photoshoot in Thailand?

Most sessions run between forty-five minutes and two hours. In Thailand the time of day matters more than the length: the sun rises and sets between roughly six and seven o'clock all year, the soft light lasts only a short while because the sun climbs fast, and by mid-morning heat and hard overhead light take over. An hour that starts at sunrise or ends at sunset usually gives more than two hours at noon. The photographer's packages on their profile say exactly what each length includes.

Can we take engagement photos at temples in Thailand?

At many temples, from the grounds, if you dress and behave as any visitor should: shoulders and knees covered, shoes off before entering a hall, no climbing on Buddha images or posing above them, feet never pointed at an image or a monk, and women don't touch monks. Kisses and lifts belong outside the temple walls. Rules are set temple by temple: some halls ban photos inside (the main hall of Chiang Rai's White Temple is one), one Bangkok temple banned wedding and commercial shoots in 2024, and at Ayutthaya's Wat Mahathat visitors kneel to photograph the Buddha head in the tree roots. Your photographer plans the route around what each place allows.

How much does a photoshoot on Koh Samui cost?

Each photographer sets their own price for a photoshoot on Koh Samui: every package on their profile shows an all-inclusive price, and nothing is added at checkout. Packages differ by how long the session runs and how many edited photos you receive, so compare a one-hour beach session against a longer one before you book.

When is the best time for a photoshoot on Koh Samui?

Samui runs on the Gulf's calendar, not the Andaman's: January to August is the dependable stretch, February to April the driest, and October to December the wet season, with November the wettest month — which makes Samui the summer answer while Phuket is in its monsoon. The west coast gets the sunsets; Chaweng and Lamai on the east coast get the sunrises. The Big Buddha and the island's temples ask for covered shoulders and knees. If you want drone shots, note that the airport sits in the north-east, close to Chaweng, Bophut and the Big Buddha, and drones may not fly within nine kilometres of an airport without approval.
