Khao Lak marries on long, quiet sand — a ceremony facing the Andaman sunset, portraits at the waterline with no crowd to edit out, and rainforest hills straight behind the beach; the monsoon from about May to October brings rain and rough seas, and ceremonies are arranged by the venues, so check before you go.

About Khao Lak

Khao Lak is the calm side of the Andaman coast: a string of long sandy beaches backed by forested hills, about an hour and a half by road north of Phuket airport, with low-rise resorts and room to walk for kilometres without a crowd. That space is the point of a session here — for families, for couples on a honeymoon and for anyone who would rather not share the frame. The beaches face west, so the light turns soft and golden in the last hour of the day. Khao Lak–Lam Ru National Park protects the forested headland at the southern end, with rocky coves and jungle trails. Offshore, the Similan Islands — granite boulders, white sand and some of the clearest water in Thailand — are a day trip by speedboat, but only in season: the national park opens on 15 October and closes on 15 May. The weather follows the same pattern, dry and calm from about November to April, wetter and rougher from May to October.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a wedding photoshoot in Thailand?

Most sessions run between forty-five minutes and two hours. In Thailand the time of day matters more than the length: the sun rises and sets between roughly six and seven o'clock all year, the soft light lasts only a short while because the sun climbs fast, and by mid-morning heat and hard overhead light take over. An hour that starts at sunrise or ends at sunset usually gives more than two hours at noon. The photographer's packages on their profile say exactly what each length includes.

Which month is best for a beach wedding in Thailand?

It depends on the coast. Phuket, Krabi, Khao Lak and Koh Lanta are driest from about November to April; their rainy season runs roughly mid-May to mid-October and peaks in September. Koh Samui and its neighbours have the opposite pattern, with the heaviest rain from October to December. Plan the ceremony for the last hour before sunset — the sun sets between about six and seven all year — and give the photographer time for portraits in that light before the reception. If the ceremony is at or near a temple, ask the temple first: rules for weddings and shoots differ from one temple to the next.

How much does a photoshoot in Khao Lak cost?

Each photographer sets their own price for a photoshoot in Khao Lak: every package on their profile shows an all-inclusive price, and nothing is added at checkout. Packages differ by how long the session runs and how many edited photos you receive, so compare a one-hour beach session against a longer one before you book.

When is the best time for a photoshoot in Khao Lak?

November to April. Khao Lak's beaches face west and are long and quiet, which makes the hour before sunset the natural slot for a session. The Similan Islands, the day trip most people come for, are a national park closed to visitors every year from mid-May to mid-October, and the boats leave early in the morning. From May to October the monsoon brings rain and heavy surf, and a red flag on the beach means no swimming. Don't put the session on the evening of a Similan trip: sunburn and salt in your hair show in every frame.
