Wedding Photographer in Chiang Rai
Chiang Rai dresses a wedding in white and blue — portraits around Wat Rong Khun, the White Temple designed by the artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, and the blue hall of Wat Rong Suea Ten; photography is not allowed inside the White Temple's main hall, and a professional shoot at either temple is something to ask about before you go.

About Chiang Rai
Chiang Rai is a quiet provincial town with three of the most photographed buildings in Thailand on its edges. Wat Rong Khun, the White Temple, about 13 kilometres south, is the work of the artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, who began rebuilding it in 1997 and expects the work to go on for decades: white stucco and mirrored glass above a pond, a bridge over a sea of reaching hands, and enough midday glare that early morning is the sensible hour. Wat Rong Suea Ten, the Blue Temple, finished in 2016 a few kilometres from the centre, is deep blue and gold inside and out. Baan Dam, the Black House of the national artist Thawan Duchanee, is the opposite mood — dark wooden halls, horns and bones, a museum rather than a temple. The temples are places of worship as well as art, so covered shoulders and knees are expected and voices stay low inside. North of the town, the Golden Triangle, where the Ruak river meets the Mekong at the borders of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar, gives a wide river landscape for the end of the day. The cool season from November to February is the best time; like Chiang Mai, the area can be hazy from about February to April.

Frequently asked questions
How long is a wedding photoshoot in Thailand?
Most sessions run between forty-five minutes and two hours. In Thailand the time of day matters more than the length: the sun rises and sets between roughly six and seven o'clock all year, the soft light lasts only a short while because the sun climbs fast, and by mid-morning heat and hard overhead light take over. An hour that starts at sunrise or ends at sunset usually gives more than two hours at noon. The photographer's packages on their profile say exactly what each length includes.
Which month is best for a beach wedding in Thailand?
It depends on the coast. Phuket, Krabi, Khao Lak and Koh Lanta are driest from about November to April; their rainy season runs roughly mid-May to mid-October and peaks in September. Koh Samui and its neighbours have the opposite pattern, with the heaviest rain from October to December. Plan the ceremony for the last hour before sunset — the sun sets between about six and seven all year — and give the photographer time for portraits in that light before the reception. If the ceremony is at or near a temple, ask the temple first: rules for weddings and shoots differ from one temple to the next.
How much does a photoshoot in Chiang Rai cost?
Each photographer sets their own price for a photoshoot in Chiang Rai: every package on their profile shows an all-inclusive price, and nothing is added at checkout. Packages differ by how long the session runs and how many edited photos you receive, so compare a one-hour walk against a half day before you book.
When is the best time for a photoshoot in Chiang Rai?
November to January, for cool, clear mornings and the sea of mist that fills the valleys below viewpoints such as Phu Chi Fa at dawn. Like Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai sits under burning-season haze from about February to April. The White Temple, Wat Rong Khun, is the frame most people come for: shoulders and knees covered, shoes off before you go inside, and no photography inside the main hall — arrive at opening, ahead of the tour groups. The Blue Temple in town and the tea slopes of Doi Mae Salong are quieter places to shoot.
