Proposal Photographer in Chiang Rai

Propose above a sea of mist at Phu Chi Fa, a forest park on the Lao border where cloud fills the valleys at dawn from about November to February β€” or at the Golden Triangle, where the Ruak meets the Mekong and three countries share one view; mist is never guaranteed, so keep a second morning free.

About Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai is a quiet provincial town with three of the most photographed buildings in Thailand on its edges. Wat Rong Khun, the White Temple, about 13 kilometres south, is the work of the artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, who began rebuilding it in 1997 and expects the work to go on for decades: white stucco and mirrored glass above a pond, a bridge over a sea of reaching hands, and enough midday glare that early morning is the sensible hour. Wat Rong Suea Ten, the Blue Temple, finished in 2016 a few kilometres from the centre, is deep blue and gold inside and out. Baan Dam, the Black House of the national artist Thawan Duchanee, is the opposite mood β€” dark wooden halls, horns and bones, a museum rather than a temple. The temples are places of worship as well as art, so covered shoulders and knees are expected and voices stay low inside. North of the town, the Golden Triangle, where the Ruak river meets the Mekong at the borders of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar, gives a wide river landscape for the end of the day. The cool season from November to February is the best time; like Chiang Mai, the area can be hazy from about February to April.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a proposal photoshoot in Thailand?

Most sessions run between forty-five minutes and two hours. In Thailand the time of day matters more than the length: the sun rises and sets between roughly six and seven o'clock all year, the soft light lasts only a short while because the sun climbs fast, and by mid-morning heat and hard overhead light take over. An hour that starts at sunrise or ends at sunset usually gives more than two hours at noon. The photographer's packages on their profile say exactly what each length includes.

Where in Thailand should we propose, and when?

Choose the coast by the month. The Andaman side β€” Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi, Khao Lak, Koh Lanta β€” is at its best from about November to April; its rainy season runs roughly mid-May to mid-October, wettest in September. The Gulf islands β€” Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao β€” work the other way round: wettest from October to December, with November the peak. Agree a spot and a signal with the photographer beforehand; they arrive early, blend in with the other people on the beach and start shooting as you walk into frame.

How much does a photoshoot in Chiang Rai cost?

Each photographer sets their own price for a photoshoot in Chiang Rai: every package on their profile shows an all-inclusive price, and nothing is added at checkout. Packages differ by how long the session runs and how many edited photos you receive, so compare a one-hour walk against a half day before you book.

When is the best time for a photoshoot in Chiang Rai?

November to January, for cool, clear mornings and the sea of mist that fills the valleys below viewpoints such as Phu Chi Fa at dawn. Like Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai sits under burning-season haze from about February to April. The White Temple, Wat Rong Khun, is the frame most people come for: shoulders and knees covered, shoes off before you go inside, and no photography inside the main hall β€” arrive at opening, ahead of the tour groups. The Blue Temple in town and the tea slopes of Doi Mae Salong are quieter places to shoot.
