About The old wooden railway station

Get directions

Hua Hin's railway station is a small red-and-cream wooden building, one of the prettiest in the country, and it grew with the town: Hua Hin became a resort after the southern railway reached it in the 1910s. Since December 2023 the trains have used a new elevated station, built as the line was doubled, and the old wooden building has been kept as a historic building, so the old platform is calmer than it once was.

It works in any light. The painted woodwork and the platform look the same in the middle of the morning as in the middle of the afternoon, which makes the station the answer to the hours when the beach is too bright. Shoot the building and the platform: a couple walking the old platform, a family lined up in front of the facade, the colours of the woodwork behind. It is a little under a kilometre from the beach, an easy stop on the way into or out of town.

It is one of the town's best-known frames, so you will rarely have it entirely to yourselves: leave space for other visitors, and stay off the rails wherever they remain. What is open around the old building can change from one season to the next — check on the day.
