Wedding Photographer in Bangkok

A Thai wedding in Bangkok starts early — monks chanting a morning blessing, then rod nam sang, guests pouring water over the couple's hands under linked thread crowns; portraits follow in the old town's temple lanes, and the legal marriage is a separate registration at a district office, so check before you go.

About Bangkok

Bangkok rewards anyone who plans around the heat. Mornings belong to the old city on the east bank of the Chao Phraya: Wat Pho's courtyards of tiled chedis and its long reclining Buddha are calm at opening time, and the river itself is a working street of ferries and longtail boats that makes an easy moving backdrop. Across the water, Wat Arun's porcelain-studded prang is the frame everyone wants, and it is shot from the east bank as the sun goes down behind it. After dark the city changes register: Yaowarat Road in Chinatown fills with neon signs and street-food smoke, and the skyline seen from the river gives a session its big finish. The canals of Thonburi, explored by longtail, still show the wooden houses on stilts the city grew from. Temples ask for covered shoulders and knees, and shoes come off before entering the halls, which a light dress or a linen shirt handles easily. The cool, dry months from November to February are the most comfortable; the rainy season from May to October is greener, with sessions planned around the showers.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a wedding photoshoot in Thailand?

Most sessions run between forty-five minutes and two hours. In Thailand the time of day matters more than the length: the sun rises and sets between roughly six and seven o'clock all year, the soft light lasts only a short while because the sun climbs fast, and by mid-morning heat and hard overhead light take over. An hour that starts at sunrise or ends at sunset usually gives more than two hours at noon. The photographer's packages on their profile say exactly what each length includes.

Which month is best for a beach wedding in Thailand?

It depends on the coast. Phuket, Krabi, Khao Lak and Koh Lanta are driest from about November to April; their rainy season runs roughly mid-May to mid-October and peaks in September. Koh Samui and its neighbours have the opposite pattern, with the heaviest rain from October to December. Plan the ceremony for the last hour before sunset — the sun sets between about six and seven all year — and give the photographer time for portraits in that light before the reception. If the ceremony is at or near a temple, ask the temple first: rules for weddings and shoots differ from one temple to the next.

How much does a photoshoot in Bangkok cost?

Each photographer sets their own price for a photoshoot in Bangkok: every package on their profile shows an all-inclusive price, and nothing is added at checkout. Packages differ by how long the session runs and how many edited photos you receive, so compare a one-hour walk against a half day before you book.

When is the best time for a photoshoot in Bangkok?

November to February is the comfortable window: drier air, cooler mornings and clear evenings. From March the heat builds to its peak in April, and the rains run from about mid-May to mid-October, usually as a heavy afternoon downpour rather than a grey day. In any month, shoot at the ends of the day — the riverside temples as soon as they open, and sunset from the Tha Tien side of the river, with Wat Arun across the water as its lights come on. Chinatown's Yaowarat Road is at its best after dark. The Grand Palace is the strictest site in the city: shoulders and knees covered, and no photography inside the chapel of the Emerald Buddha.
